Nanoxort LLC, a biomedical start-up located in Auburn, AL, is looking for a Full Time Lab Technician to join our team to support day-to-day lab operations. Nanoxort is on a mission to provide safer, improved diagnostic tools that improve care for certain patient populations. More specifically, we are developing nanoparticle-based MRI contrast agents that will significantly enhance diagnosis of a variety of diseases (e.g. vascular, neurological, and cancer). 

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities for this position will include synthesizing and characterizing nanoparticles, performing in vitro experiments, and analyzing data. The expected effort allocation is:

  •         Performing experiments (60%): Operate lab apparatus and instruments, design and perform experiments, collect and tabulate data, and keep accurate lab records. Understand and comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  •         Analyzing results (25%): Process the data, perform calculations and prepare charts, graphs and reports, and conduct statistical analysis. Provide a summary of written work updates and plans each week.
  •         Assist in managing the lab (15%): Keep lab equipment, chemicals reagents and supplies in excellent order. Perform routine lab maintenance, cleaning, ordering and organizing. Assist with administrative tasks (e.g. inventory management). Participate in weekly meetings and planning sessions.

Performed experiments will be related to ongoing Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) awarded projects. In addition to the duties specifically identified by this job description, the candidate may perform other duties assigned by the Principal Investigator and Nanoxort leadership. The candidate will receive training directly from the Principal Investigator. Previous lab experience is desired, especially with nanoparticle synthesis and characterization.

Desired Knowledge and Skills:

  •         Basic skills in lab techniques including pipetting and preparing solutions
  •         Knowledge of lab safety rules and guidelines
  •         Microsoft Office 
  •         Ability to lift and carry 5 to 30lbs
  •         Experience with in vitro studies and any form of microscopy
  •         An independent worker who is also a team player
  •         Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems
  •         Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  •         Completes work within designated time

Educational Background: Requires at least a Bachelor's of Science degree in chemistry, biology, chemical/biomedical engineering or other related scientific field.

Experience: Prior laboratory experience is highly desirable.

Working Days/Hours: Monday-Friday: 9am-5pm (Must be flexible depending on workload)

Physical Requirements: The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds. Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, toxic chemicals, strong acids/bases, and potential carcinogenic substances. Proper PPE will be provided.
